Managing International Students
We help quality U.S. high schools create and operate their International Student Program, thereby enabling the schools to enroll qualified international students. We have a rigorous process in identifying and preparing the schools to work before the students arrive. Once they arrive, we continue to work closely with the schools and the individual students to ensure the quality of both their on-campus and off-campus learning experiences.
Our work at the American schools include:
1. Assess and make recommendations to core curriculum and other school competencies to establish and maintain a successful international student program.
2. Develop the school’s international student recruitment program that would highlight academic, leadership, student social, lifestyle and values based programs.
3. Coordinate the SEVIS application by the school, thereby permitting US Visa’s to be issued to the international students. Assist with the development of immigration program documents, instructions and help with staff training.
4. Develop and manage a student “room & board” program that would involve qualified parents hosting an international student for a full year (“Host Family”).
5. Administer the student-housing program via a local Chinese “Nanny” within the local community to support the children academic, housing, behavioral or emotional needs.
6. Develop in concert with school personnel, a TESOL (English as Second Language) program for the Chinese students.
7. Provide initial training and follow-up support to the teachers, administrators and students on how to both understand and accept the cultural differences between the American and international students.
Creating International Schools
We partner with some of the most prestigious high schools in China to create international schools and international classes to cater to the needs of Chinese students who plan to study overseas. Our goal is to help these students develop strong English proficiency, academic knowledge, and life skills so that when they graduate, they will be admitted to top universities in the United States or other countries. These schools provide students the advantage of getting an international education while staying in their home country.
Critical Elements of a Successful International School
To us, a successful international school or international class is one that can prepare students to enter the best universities in the world such as Harvard and MIT, but more importantly, it must prepare students to succeed in life including a productive career and fulfilling personal life. Based on our experience, there are four elements that are critical to the success of an international school or international class.
1) Overall Management. This includes strategic planning, student recruitment, budgeting, marketing, government relationship, logistics support, student life support, and so on. We have a strong team that can support such management needs. Our leadership includes successful businessman, banker, educator, university professor, government leader, school administrator, and other professionals who come in with extensive experience.
2) U.S. Academic Leadership. This is often an area that is lacking in many international programs in China. It relates to designing and implementing an effective curriculum that helps students excel in school subjects and external assessments such as SAT, TOEFL, IELT, etc. More significantly, it also includes training and activities that will develop students’ life skills such as leadership, creativity, emotional intelligence, positive attitudes and so on. These areas are important to top world universities as well as students’ future lives. Our consulting team includes professors from Harvard, Stanford, and MIT who will provide training to students and faculty.
3) Recruitment of American Faculty and Administrators. Good teachers are the key to good student learning. Many international programs in China have difficult recruiting qualified teachers and are now using unqualified foreign teachers who have not exceled in the American educational system themselves. Educational Group of America, on the other hand, already has a database of more than 6,000 teachers in the U.S. who are interested to teach overseas. Our hiring process is selective and thorough so that we are confident in the teachers that we provide to the schools.
4) Accreditation & Partnership with American School. It is important that the international school or class has a strong partnering school in the U.S. This school
plays the important role of providing curriculum guidance, student and faculty exchanges, and American high school diplomas. Because we already have an extensive network of prestigious schools in the U.S., we will be able to help our Chinese partner to establish such collaboration.
